Chilao Visitors Center – Angeles National Forest, San Gabriel Mountains National Monument – U.S. Forest Service Region V

The Chilao Visitor Center is located in a popular recreation area, one hour’s drive into the mountains outside of Pasadena, California. The center primarily serves populations from the greater Los Angeles basin area, such as day trips for grade school students, bird watchers, and mountain bikers. The Center mediates a major urban population’s introduction to the flora and fauna of the desert high country.  The Center’s form is evocative of the Native American structures typical of the region historically.
